Sayhi to the weird little clamp that I ran over with my bike on my way to work right now. If you ever wondered who would win in a battle between a weird little clamp and a bike tire, so the answer is the weird little clamp
I was happy to find a square-head bolt in my bins of stuff. The original had a square head bolt, so this was a nice replacement
@MLE_online Hello, weird little clamp. I think that's a beam clamp for hangin' stuff from beams in a steel building. I used similar ones to hang my lights. Sorry you had to meet like that.
@North @MLE_online
So it's missing its little friend?
@North I will keep it and torture it for what it did
@MLE_online @North I came here to ask if you kept the clamp. Maybe de-rust and rehabilitate it!
@MLE_online I relate to bike tires, in the sense of just expecting to lose fights
@MLE_online
street born orphan clamp,
the bicycle does collide.
a new home is found
@MLE_online Finding a good road tool is such a treat!
@attoparsec I would feel better about it if it hadn't made me miss the bus and have to walk my bike a half mile home so i could drive to work
@MLE_online Yeah, that sucks. =\
@attoparsec I should find a way to put it to work on my bike
Indeed. It injured your bike, so now your bike needs to help your bike in some way to maintain balance.
Even if that means it becomes a greeble, because that would kinda make a good greeble.
@ducksauz @attoparsec I will give it some thought and see what I can come up with
@MLE_online @ducksauz The riggers for an installation of mine were using what looked like exactly those things to anchor the piece (big steel sheets) between I-beams... over people's heads... outside for 9 months. So I bet it can handle bike-level loads, at least!
@JohnS_AZ Yeah, it's definitely a beam clamp!
@MLE_online I've never seen one loose before.
@JohnS_AZ Neither have I. Nor have I ever run one over on my bike
@MLE_online what a good little clamp sorry about your wheel tho
@MLE_online I feel like most people wouldn't give it that much love after the tire experience!
@beige_alert For all the trouble it gave me, i oughta get something out of it
@MLE_online wow it cleaned up nice
@crazybutable acid does wonders!
@MLE_online which acid? Just vinegar? Or something stronger?
@crazybutable stronger. hydrochloric
@MLE_online wow I bet it never expected to be found and loved again after it was lost and rusted
@ferrix Its evolutionary strategy is popping bike tires so the bike owner takes it home and takes care of it
You realise they pair for life? You'll need to find its former partner or it'll pine.
@botvolution @ferrix Unless it didn't have a partner yet. If so, now it's imprinted on me
@MLE_online @ferrix it's the sink-plant of the clamp world
@InstantArcade @ferrix except sink plant never did me any wrong
@MLE_online I will be very happy if weird little clamp’s makeover involves a googly eye or two
@mattgrayyes If I had any googly eyes, I will gladly add them
@MLE_online That is an enormous improvement over its as-found condition.
@smellsofbikes Now I just need to have an actual use for it
@MLE_online as a hangar for tubes that are drying post-patching, seems apropos.
@smellsofbikes True, but I don't have a beam to attach it to
@MLE_online There are *multiple* times in my life that an offhand acquisition of some small doohickey has resulted in me building a bunch of required infrastructure to support that doohickey in the manner to which it is accustomed, and this seems like an entrypoint to that.
@smellsofbikes No, I have more self control than that lol
@MLE_online @smellsofbikes No time like the present to get one
@chrishuck @smellsofbikes These kinds of tricks might work on some, but not me. I am strong of will
@MLE_online That almost cubic square head is really neat looking. All mine are flat and I now want some of these for using on vintage equipment.
@smellsofbikes It does look very old fashioned
@MLE_online I feel like I'm watching the season-long arc of a major character….
@apontious Soon it will become cocky with its success and start alienating everyone around it
@MLE_online That's the season 2 arc!
